Link Philosophy

Last updated: October 22, 2004. The intention of this links section will be to provide you with some high quality sites that you may not be already familiar with. My 'link' philosophy is to keep the list relatively short, update it only with links that either a) I have either found exceptionally helpful as resources or b) are done by other musicians who I have come to know and have found their music entertaining and worth exploring. The web is filled up with too many links that are unexplained and irrelevant.

Musician Resources

Harmony Central Harmony Central is very much the musician's friend and a very useful resource. Harmony Central especially excels at product information and reviews and a really deep forum on home recording and equipment.
The Recording Website Great place for home recording tips. I especially found their stuff on EQ really good (The Equalization Primer by Robert Dennis).
OLGA The Online Guitar Archive. The best thing about this site that you can find guitar tabs for almost any song you can think of. Plus a lot of other cool guitar resources here.
Goliad Music I take occasional voice lessons from James Robbins. In his site, he offers a lot of good instruction (for free!) and just completed a book on music composition that looks to be great. James sings, plays the guitar, arranges, and composes - all extremely well.
Mi2N Music Industry News Network. Good source for music industry news but I think they are trying a bit too hard to be cutesy with that acronym!
GarageBand This is a site where you can upload music and have it reviewed and ranked among other contributors. Not only is this a useful site for musicians but I think it's an extremely neat idea. The website interface and usability is one of the best I've seen.
AMG All Music Guide. This site is unbelievable! Wonderful encyclopedia-like descriptions of any bands and artists that you can imagine. Plus really useful descriptions of various genres and cross references across genres and sub genres. Even album and song reviews. This site is THE PLACE for learn about music and musicians (current and classic).
MojoPie This is a terrific resource aimed primarily to the home recording musician. Reviews of affordable equipment and some very nice tips and articles.
Studio Covers A really useful directory containing a LOT of great articles on home recording. I'm constantly learning new things from this archive
Home Recording BBS Another bulletin board for home recording enthusiasts. Topics here include an amazing variety: mixing and mastering, building a studio, songwriting, guitars, microphones, music business... and it goes on and on
The Recording Project And yet another good series of bulletin boards for musicians and home recordists - professional and amateur alike. Chock full of good information and friendly people.
